EMIR SAUL
Emir Saul, a distinguished conductor, composer, and music educator, was born in Buenos Aires. His musical journey began at the Conservatorio Provincial de Musica “Gilardo Gilardi,” where he studied singing and violin. Later, he pursued advanced studies in Composition and Orchestral Conducting at the Universidad Nacional de la Plata, graduating with honors.
In 1979, Emir founded the Ensamble Musical “La Plata,” marking the inception of his conducting career. He led this ensemble until 1983, the same year he established the Orchestra of the Facultad de Bellas Artes at U.N.L.P., where he also imparted his knowledge of conducting. His commitment to musical education continued when he moved to Tucuman in 1984, where he became the Music Director of the orchestras of the province of Tucuman and the National University.
In 1985 he founded the Youth Orchestra at the National University of Tucuman, a role he embraced until March 1990.
In 1992 he created and conducted the “Studio Orchestrale Scaligero” in Verona, Italy, where he resides today.
From 2011 to 2016, he served as the Principal Conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica Municipal de Mar del Plata.
His remarkable career has taken him to renowned venues worldwide. Emir has been invited to the prestigious Colon Theatre, initially as a composer in 1983 and 1984, and later as a conductor from 1986 onwards. This marked the beginning of an international journey, leading him to conduct in countries such as England, Germany, the USA, Holland, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Greece, South Korea, Uruguay, Romania, and his current residence, Italy.
Emir has collaborated as a Guest Conductor with esteemed orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic (London), Estable del Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires Philharmonic, “Haydn” (Bolzano, Italy), State Orchestra of Thessaloniki (Greece), Helsingborg Symphony, Sheboygan Symphony (USA), Padova and Veneto Orchestra, Seoul Academy Orchestra (Korea), “I Virtuosi Italiani,” Sinfonica di San Marino, Domkapelle (Cologne), “Oltenia” (Craiova – Romania), Timisoara Opera (Romania), Filarmonica de Montevideo (Uruguay), Sinfonica Nacional (RA), Olympic Theatre of Vicenza, Accademica della Fondazione Toscanini, Valpolicella, Veronese Chamber, and the Symphony Orchestras of Mar del Plata, Mendoza, San Juan, Bahia Blanca, Estable del Teatro Argentino, and the Chamber Orchestras of La Plata and Mayo.
Noteworthy performances include the first Italian presentation in Korea of Rossini’s Opera “La Cenerentola” in November 1994 at the Opera House of the Seoul Arts Centre. From 1996 to 1998, Emir conducted Aida and Nabucco on tour, captivating audiences in major European cities such as London, Brussels, Amsterdam, and Lisbon.
On January 2nd, 2000, at the invitation of former Artistic Director Leonidas Kavakos, Saul conducted the opening concert of the “Thessaloniki Concert Hall,” managed by the Megaron Foundation.
With a repertoire of over 300 works, spanning symphonic music, opera, and ballet, Emir has showcased his talents in conducting and composition. His repertoire includes Beethoven’s 9 symphonies, “Turandot”, “La Bohème”, “Aida”, “Nabucco”, “Traviata”, “Trovatore”, “Tosca”, “Madama Butterfly”, “Il Barbiere di Siviglia”, “Cenerentola”, “Elisir d’Amore”, “Don Pasquale”, “Carmina Burana”, “Don Quixote”, “Carmen” (Bizet-Schiedrin). Also his dedication to Latin-American composers is evident in his repertoire.
In addition to his conducting and composing, Emir Saul is actively involved in music education. He teaches at the Institute for High Musical Performance “C. Monteverdi” in Bolzano,
Saul has served for 15 years as the Artistic Director of Amici della Musica del Lago di Garda and been a member of the Artistic Board of the Mahler Foundation in Bolzano.
